Going Wireless 2002

On April 24, Saint Paul started using wireless connection after a long time of dial up. Shane Spencer, one of techie guys from the beginning, came back to the island for a week to set it up with the help of the Beringsea.com staff.

Being 770 air miles from the mainland is not a big problem as Saint Paul starts to look towards the future. Saint Paul island, in the middle of the Bering Sea, is the most technology based village.

The benefit that this brings to the island is that the community can access the internet from anywhere on the island that is within the boundary of the omni antenna which broadcasts a six mile radius.

There are four directional antennas with the main broadcaster being on the TDX roof. Two are on a locals roof, one is on posscamp.

There are six access points, two here at the office, two at the locals house and two at posscamp.

Each pair of access points do a send and receive signal.

It took about two to three days and the rest of the time that Shane was here we did some testing and hooked up some local entities.

Tribal government, Tribal Eco office,

Throughout the whole process we took some pictures.
